A medical is defined as any passenger who meets one or more of the following:

  • Suffering from any disease which is believed to be actively contagious and communicable, or
  • Who, because of certain diseases, or incapacitation, may have or develop an unusual behaviour or physical conditions, which could have an adverse effect on the welfare and comfort of another passenger and/or crew members, or
  • Who is considered to be a potential hazard to the safety of the flight or the punctuality, or
  • Who will require medical attention and/or special equipment to maintain his/her health during the flight, or
  • Who may have his/her medical condition aggravated during or because of the flight.
  • The Passenger Medical Clearance (MEDA) Form is used as a means to relay the medical conditions of the passenger to the Medical Office for medical clearance.
  • MEDA passenger can only be accepted to travel upon approval of Medical Office. Medical clearance usually should be processed 48 working hours prior to flight departure for individuals and 72 working hours for groups.
  • When an interline journey is involved, medical clearance should be obtained for travel on CX first, then approval from all other interline carriers in the itinerary is needed.
  • The carriage and inflight use of other medical equipment such as respirators or incubators must be approved, on a case by case basis, by the Medical office and Engineering Department.
  • Effective from 20 Mar 2017, customers who request to use non-critical MPEDs during the flight will be required to undergo with MEDA clearance process.

** Use of these devices will be banned during any outbreak of respiratory infectious
diseases to prevent the spread of disease.

A nebuliser is a device used to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. It is commonly used to treat asthma and other respiratory diseases.
